A bench headed by Chief Justice of India Dhananjaya Y Chandrachud emphasised that no punitive action would be taken against the doctors if they returned to work, but warned that continued absenteeism could result in disciplinary proceedings under relevant regulations. The fresh wave of clashes — which has killed at least ten people since September 6 — now threatens to besiege the beleaguered state and rupture the fragile peace that held for close to three months.
