The gruesome Mehrauli murder has captivated our public conversations all week. What was in the fridge? Where is the head? What are her phone chats? Vir Sanghvi told us to move beyond shock and horror and keep the focus on what happens next. Why? He speculates a future scenario where Poonawala will be denied bail, will stay in jail and the police will build a case against him. This will take a year. Then the case will go to trial. This could take several years and people often lose interest.

Two big meetings at the G20 summit in Bali had everyone buzzing — Xi-Modi and Xi-Biden.

The friendly handshake in Bali between PM Modi and Xi is out of sync with the realities on the ground, and isn’t likely to influence China’s position, wrote Manvendra Singh, warning us about the Chinese doctrine of deception.

Commenting on the Joe Biden’s first meeting with Xi in Bali, Praveen Swami wrote that Beijing is most likely wondering exactly where does America’s red line on Taiwan lie?

Continuing our 1962 war series, retd Lt Gen H.S. Panag wrote that it was a combination of flawed understanding of the enemy, terrain and weather, and psychological collapse of the leadership, which had a cascading effect on the rank and file, that were the primary reasons for defeat.

“I believe I am blessed. Some invisible power is pushing me into politics”, Isudan Gadhvi told Sheela Bhatt. Read her fascinating profile of AAP’s new Gujarat leader.

Walking on the Bharat Jodo Yatra, Yogendra Yadav is often confronted with what he calls ‘selfie hunters’. Do read his wonderful sociological analysis of this species.
