Here’s Everything You’re Entitled to if Your Flight Gets Canceled

I just watched a video of a meteorologist weaving different titles from the new Taylor Swift album into her report, and I felt inspired, in spite of the fact that I know nothing about meteorology and I have no intention of listening to Taylor Swift's album. It's just nice to see someone innovating in their field. It's no secret that the "unprecedented times" that we grew so tired of referencing for the past two years are continuing apace and we are all figuring out how to listen to ourselves, do what we need, experience the world around us, have fun, and put a playful spin on the weather. I hope we can all find new ways to keep putting a playful spin on the weather as much as possible.

I hope you're in the mood for learning more about what you're entitled to when your flight gets canceled, a delicious cheesy potato soup recipe, our favorite horror road trip podcast, plant-based steak, and the best luggage for weekend trips… because that's what I have to give! And what an offering it is.

It's time for me to continue perfecting my impression of Emma D'Arcy saying "Negroni Spagliato with Prosecco in it" in that viral video. Have a great weekend! Be safe out there among the spooks!

When your flight gets canceled, emotions run high, but before you get all verklempt, remember that you may be entitled to certain things. It comes as no surprise that with demands for flights and staffing shortages what they are, some flights are bound to get canceled, so here's some tried and true advice for getting through the holiday travel season and some reminders about your entitlements, like the fact that you're entitled to a full cash refund if you do not wish to take your rebooked flight after the original one gets canceled. That's federal law, by the way!

FOOD & DRINK

You look like you could use a cheesy potato soup with black forest bacon bits. I just have a feeling. Comfort food is just what the doctor ordered, these days. Cut to me barreling down the highway the other day, shoveling fistfuls of fries into my mouth while blaring a podcast about mindfulness and presence. This article includes a comprehensive history of the rise of potato soup and a tried and true recipe from Dom Crisp, the chef at Saso Bistro in Los Angeles. I can't think of anything that would make a spooky Halloween weekend any cozier, can you?

Humor and horror could not be more different. Or could they? They both deal in cathartic release, which is what makes the gasps and laughs that accompany listening to the podcast Scream Queens so gosh darn rewarding. Hosted by Josh and Justine, two longtime friends and horror fanatics, the pod does a deep dive on different spooky locations and the horror movies those locations inspired. It blends travel, terror, and amusement perfectly. Check out our talk with the creators and give the podcast a listen to kick Halloweekend into gear.

They've done the impossible, making a plant-based steak that is (almost) as juicy and meaty as any filet you'll encounter on the beef cattle farm. Beyond Steak is a pretty tasty stab (pardon my pun) at a veggie steak, chopped into cubes that can be enjoyed in a taco or a salad or anything else that calls for steak cubes. You might not be able to get it medium rare and bloody, but it's delicious, filling, and quite simply beyond. I'm ready to wander into the wild and wonderful beyond, and taste the steak that is not steak. It's my time.

shopping

Weekend trips can be tricky. How much are you supposed to pack? Are you supposed to throw a few light sweaters and a chapstick in a backpack and call it a day? Are you supposed to fill a giant rolling bag that's as big as (but heavier than) a well-fed fifth grader with clothes for every possible weather pattern? Packing for a weekend away can easily stump even the most efficient, neurotic traveler. That's where we come in, with this article about what bags and accessories will really help you up your travel game.
