Texas Hill Country Is the Ultimate Spring Road Trip

Hello, everyone. If you're in New York City, I hope you're staying safe and vigilant out there. No matter where you are, it's a good time to embrace the wonders of spring (i.e. use some Flonase), get ready for all of the most important holidays (Easter, Passover, 4/20, and National Glazed Spiral Ham Day), and find a reason to smile today. We'll try and give you a few starting points.

Today's Thrillist newsletter has Texas Hill Country, the wonders of horseradish, an Airbnb that's on a California weed farm, a new International Dark Sky Community in southern Europe, and some of our favorite eco-friendly Airbnbs.

Wishing you a marvelous Wednesday and beyond,

Texas Hill Country is a place out of a dream or a nightmare, depending on how recently you have watched The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Whether you want to hit up a roadside cafe filled with memorabilia from the horror film, lie in a patch of beautiful spring flowers, or eat pie in the "Pie Capital of Texas," Texas Hill Country has something for everyone. In fact, the beautiful good vibes are much more plentiful than the horror movie vibes, and dare I say this is the perfect region for a magnificent spring road trip.

We're talking about horseradish because it's an important element of the Passover Seder, commonly used in place of the "bitter herbs." But where does horseradish come from exactly? We looked at the history of this delicious side dish, and spoke to the people behind one of the most popular contemporary horseradish brands, ISH, about how their business came to be.

There's nothing like stepping out the doors of your Sonoma Valley farmhouse in a caftan or whatever you have on hand, lying down next to the pool, and catching a great big whiff of cannabis. Well, I guess that's not really a universal desire, but if it is your thing, I have just the Airbnb for you.

Jelsa has just become a member of the International Dark Sky Community, meaning that it has changed a bunch of its unshielded public lighting into shielded public lighting in order to limit light pollution and make the night sky more visible. There are a lot of wonderful reasons to visit Jelsa, now it's time to add it to your list of astro-tourist hotspots.

The only thing better than getting out of your own house, not having to look at all your crap, and staying in a beautiful Airbnb, is knowing that the AIrbnb is environmentally sustainable. We have a list of some of the most amazing eco-friendly places to hang your hat, whether it's a treehouse in North Carolina, an "earthship home" in Montana, or an off-the-grid dwelling in the California desert. Plus, if you stay in one of these houses, you get to smugly talk about what a conscious and ethical person you are for at least two years afterwards. Just kidding, that should not be an incentive!
